TRIO Visits Berkeley County YMCA

The Trio team continued the on-site visits to our 2010 CreateAthon recipients last Friday with a tour of Berkeley County’s Family YMCA.

The wonderful Kimberly Nolte walked us around the facility and her strong passion for what she does and for the people in her community became immediately apparent. We’re not quite sure how she manages to do all that she does each day. This YMCA, in many ways, is thriving. With an impressive network of events and groups – from competitive youth sports teams to fitness classes for seniors – the front doors to the building are rarely motionless. Yet in other ways – the organization is in dire need of attention. The roof, for instance, has been on the ‘to do’ list for a while now, as they strive to raise the necessary funds to replace it. Damage is apparent internally as a result, including the ceiling of one of the group fitness rooms, where trash cans are strategically placed to capture leaks.

Needless to say, it was a great morning with Kimberly and we enjoyed the sneak-peek into her world of smiling kids and grateful adults who are all on their own unique journey towards fitness and fun. We look forward to putting our brains together this Thursday for the organization!
