To Whom It May Concern: Five Tips For An Effective Email Marketing Campaign

Email marketing can be a powerful tool for businesses to connect with customers and drive sales. However, with so many emails flooding people’s inboxes every day, it can be challenging to stand out and capture your audience’s attention. Luckily, TRIO’s full-service marketing team is ready to help you hit send on a creatively excellent and successful strategy. Implement these tips to help your email be seen and be heard.

1. Develop a cadence.

Consistency helps you stay top of mind, so plan a schedule to send your emails. Remember, there’s no magic figure when it comes to frequency. This can be weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. Depending on your industry, research suggests that it’s best to send one to three emails per month. Decide how much content you have and how often you need to make touchpoints with your target audience.

2. Organize your audience.

Don’t send every email to your entire database. Instead, segment based on demographics, behavior or interests to increase your email’s performance. For example, nonprofit donors and service recipients will likely not react to the same content.

Pro Tip: Identify subscribers who have not engaged with your emails in the past year. You can send them special emails to encourage engagement and later remove them from your database if they remain unresponsive.

3. Short and sweet subject.

Your subject line is the first thing your recipient will see, so make sure it grabs their attention. MailChimp recommends subjects no longer than nine words and 60 characters. Consider using emojis, humor, urgency or curiosity to make your subject line stand out.

4. “Click here!”

Simply sending a “hello” email doesn’t add any value to a subscriber’s life. Add CTAs and ensure the button stands out so action can be taken within a few easy clicks. For example, place a link at the top and a button at the bottom. Experiment to see what generates results.

5. Interactive and dynamic visuals.

You can include interactivity in your email by inviting people to swipe, click, tap or watch. This could be a countdown clock, video or GIF. The main goal is that it makes someone dwell on your email.

Pro Tip: Remember to keep your visuals small. Large image files can slow down your email and make it more likely to end up in the spam folder. Remember, 600-pixel width is ideal for most platforms.
