MUSC CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES NEW HEALTH INFORMATION FOR PARENTS, KIDS AND TEENS AVAILABLE AT WWW.MUSCKIDS.COM

Web site becomes information destination for area families.

Charleston, South Carolina -- MUSC Children's Hospital announced today it has added a comprehensive library of health information for consumers on its Web site located at www.musckids.com. The Web site features thousands of medically reviewed pages of pediatric-specific health information complete with images, charts and statistics.

"MUSC Children's Hospital is pleased to be able to make our newly launched Web site a valuable resource for area families. As the area's leading health care provider for children, we understand how important it is to reach out to kids, teens and their parents. That's why we have created a Web site they can use as a resource," comments Lyndon Key Jr., MD, chair of the department of pediatrics. "Teachers will also find the information to be a great resource for lesson plans and homework help."

The site features information across a broad spectrum of topics including parenting, general health, medical problems, developmental, behavioral, emotional, nutrition & fitness, and first aid & safety. In addition to the comprehensive library, here are just some of the unique features visitors will discover at MUSCkids.com:

  • e-Newsletter for Parents: sign up to receive a monthly parenting newsletter via e-mail.
  • MUSC eNurse: post a question to a pediatric resource nurse. You will receive a reply within the next business day.
  • Find a Doctor: online directory of MUSC's physicians specializing in general pediatrics or pediatric specialty.
  • In the News: current news and events related to MUSC Children's Hospital, pediatric news and/or health policy located on the site's home page.
  • News and Events: calendar of events sponsored or supported by MUSC Children's Hospital.
  • Your Hospital Visit: information on how to prepare for a hospital visit.
"Additions and updates to the Web site will be constant. We recognize that our Web site is a living, growing resource and new ideas are generated every day" states Key. "For example, we are currently developing an interactive surgery tour for kids to view prior to visiting MUSC Children's Hospital. We understand that visiting the hospital can be scary for children. This tour will help our patients understand what to expect, as well as demonstrate just how much we tailor our service specifically to kids."

The Web site was created through a partnership between MUSC Information Technology Lab and Trio Solutions Inc., a local company specializing in planning, marketing and Web services for the health care industry.
