The Most Creative 24 Hours in the Lowcountry

For the past nine years, TRIO has had the honor of helping Lowcountry nonprofit organizations through CreateAthon—a 24 hour, around-the-clock creative blitz during which we provide marketing and creative services to nonprofit organizations on a pro-bono basis. After much deliberation we have filled four out of five CreateAthon slots. We’re excited to announce that we’ll be working with Charleston Police Pipes and Drums, Chucktown Squash Scholars, Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity and OHM Radio!

Why did we choose these nonprofits? See for yourself!

Chucktown Squash Scholars is an after-school youth development program, which uses the sport of squash, in combination with academic tutoring, literacy development, fitness education, community service and mentoring to make a difference in the lives of Charleston’s underserved youth population.

Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seek to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope.
Ohm Radio is Charleston’s first community, commercial-free radio station that broadcasts music by local, independent and legendary artists, and helps spread the good word about what local entrepreneurs, nonprofits and social groups are doing to enhance the Charleston community.

The Charleston Police Pipes and Drums is a volunteer arm of the City of Charleston Police Department with a rich tradition of service to both the department and community. The band travels around much of the Lowcountry as well as the southeastern United States performing at parades, public events, Scottish highland games and funerals.

Which nonprofit will you choose?

With so many wonderful applicants this year, we need your help deciding on the final organization to fill the fifth spot for our People’s Choice Award. We’ve narrowed it down to three organizations and will need you to vote on your favorite the week of Sept. 14-18! The organization with the most votes will be our final selected nonprofit for this year’s CreateAthon. The candidates for the People’s Choice Award are Charleston Friends of the Library, Winyah River Foundation and Yo Art. Vote on one of these awesome organizations here.

The Charleston Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization that supports and advocates for the Charleston Library system. The organization raises money to fund more than 6,000 programs sponsored annually by the library.

Winyah River Foundation is a nonprofit grassroots organization that protects, preserves, monitors and revitalizes the health of the lands and waters of the greater Winyah Bay watershed.

Yo Art! is a nonprofit organization that develops a skill-based media arts technology program at Title I public schools. This exposes students from different backgrounds to unlimited opportunities available beyond the bounds of their local neighborhoods, giving the children a broader scope in life.

Giving back to the community has been always been the heart of TRIO. It’s important for us to support our community, and we feel honored to be able to donate our time each year to these unique and deserving nonprofits. We will close our office this year on October 22-23 to provide these nonprofits with a little marketing magic!

Be sure to drop in and see us during CreateAthon. We haven’t announced this year’s theme yet, but let’s just say we’ll try to make Zack & Kelly, Will & Jazz, Ross & Rachel, Brenda & Dylan and Baby & Scary proud.
